(More customer reviews)Let me start by saying two things: I write very few reviews for Amazon, and I do NOT believe in Chinese Medicine, herbal/alternative health remedies, new age healing arts, acupuncture, and all that mumbo jumbo.
HOWEVER...
Over the span of 15 years of my current employment, I've been flying to Seattle every January for a week, and like clockwork, I've gotten sick - to varying degrees - while on this trip. That was until about 4 years ago, my mother INSISTED on penalty of being "black sheeped" that I promise to try this "Echinacea" stuff. So I did. I took 2 capsules every morning and 2 capsules every noon during my trip - including the days of my flights. And I didn't get sick, to my surprise.
Not satisified with one trip, I started trying this junk every time I "started to feel ill". The beginnings of a scratchy throat, chills, weakness, a slight burn in the back of my mouth, a sniffle... y'know what I'm talking about. I'd take it immediately or right before I'd go to sleep. Again, much to my surprise, instead of being congested and ill in the morning, I'd wake up fit as as fiddle.
I've read that this stuff does NOTHING for some people. And for others it works brilliantly. Most importantly, I've read that there's no consistent medical proof that this stuff works at all. I can tell you that while it might not work for you, from my own experience as a traveling salesperson - THIS STUFF WORKS FOR ME. And again, I don't know if it'll work for everyone but it's my secret weapon against colds or flus. It doesn't work if I don't catch the illness "right before" it blossoms into a full blown case of nastiness however if I get it "right before", it virtually always goes away.
I have my theories on how this stuff works based on what I've read. Apparently, it activates your body's natural immune system and kicks it into gear so that whatever ailment you've got gets caught immediately as opposed to waiting for your body to recognize that there's a foreign virus or bacteria developing. I've also read that you can develop a resistance or an immunity to it, such that it no longer works for you. (Which would suck... that's the reason I don't take it every day like a frickin' vitamin.)
That being said, the other thing I've read is that the word "STANDARDIZED" is very important. It ensures that you get a consistent dosage of whatever substance it is that makes this stuff work. Without the "STANDARDIZED" label on the packaging, you will likely get widely varying amounts of the "good stuff".
At the end of the day, I can't remember the last time I caught a serious cold.
