(More customer reviews)After a 2-hr plane flight, I thought I'd torn a muscle or bruised it internally, because I had pain, but no bruising, in the back of my calf. The pain didn't go away for several days, and I suddenly realized: OMG!! Deep vein thrombosis!! Couldn't reach my doctor, so I researched DVT online. I massively increased my water intake (in the hopes of thinning my blood and at the risk of raising my blood pressure), added vitamin K to my diet and went in to see my doc when I could. (Apparently clots in the calf rarely break free and cause strokes or heart attacks -- and we have no insurance, so I try to avoid going to the doctor. (How's that for modern America!)
My doc recommended nattokinase (because I had a flight to Europe coming up in a couple months) and apparently, nattokinase doesn't just help prevent clots, it dissolves them if they form. So, I quit the vitamin K a week or so before starting the nattokinase (it's dangerous to thin the blood too much; which was a concern) but I needed to prevent another clot! All calf pain went away -- was it the nattokinase or just the passage of time? I don't know, but I think it as the nattokinase. I made the flight to Europe with no problems. I have dropped my dosing back down from two a day (morning and evening) to one a day. But I will raise it back to two capsules a day before my flight to California. DVT is nothing to fool with! (But neither are pharmaceutical blood thinners!)
The HeartScan-blog doctor had a complete hissy fit about nattokinase, but all the other reviews I've read say: used judiciously, it's okay. {shrug} with no insurance and, sadly, little trust for doctors (thanks Big Pharma!), I'll keep doing what I think is best.
