Spectrum Essential Chia Seed Omega-3 & Fiber Review

Spectrum Essential Chia Seed Omega-3 and Fiber

A coworker was selling Mila, multi-level-marketing chia seeds, and had the office hooked. I asked my coworkers about it, and heard: "I wake up easier. I'm more awake when I get up." "I have more energy." "I don't snack as much during the day." and my favorite, "I don't get bad hangovers."
I wasn't about to spend $70 for a bag of Mila chia seeds, so I got the $8 Spectrum brand instead. The first nite, I stirred a spoonful into a glass of water, and waited. It had a clear baby-snot consistency that I found gross. I drank it anyway. The next morning, I sprinkled a spoonful in a packet of instant organic oatmeal. Knowing that the seeds absorb a lot of water, (and knowing I'm not much of a water drinker and need to sneak it into my diet whenever I can) I added extra water. It thickened nicely, and blended right in. I think it added body to the oatmeal, and it was fine.
To my surprise, it took me a long time to eat the oatmeal. I was also full for a long time. Usually, breakfast kick starts my appetite. Once I start eating, it's ON. A couple of hours later, when I normally be starving for my 11a.m. snack, I wasn't hungry.
Later, I was in a crowd in a not-so-good-area with a bunch of people around me. I am usually slightly anxious under such circumstances, and I noticed that I felt fine, totally normal.
I found that odd, so I went online to see if chia had anything to do with it. Apparently, people with depression/anxiety have low levels of some kind of good fat in thier brains that chia seeds have. I think it helped me keep my cool in a normally uncomfortable situation for me. Better than chammomile tea. Day 2, same thing. I normally crave chocolate, and the cravings weren't there. I actually wanted healthier foods. After dinner, for dessert, I wanted and ate a tomato. That's a far cry from my usual craving of chocolate frozen yogurt.
It's only been 2 days, but my behavior and cravings changed noticably. That's why I'm writing about it. I intend to keep it up. I also intend to try different brands. The one thing i didn't like about this one was that it said it was sprayed with an "inert gas." Inert or not, I'm not sure I want my food gassed.
Oh, another thing...supposedly, chia doesn't have a hard shell like flax, so you don't need to grind it. I also read that it doesn't go rancid as fast as flax. I can also say I've done flax and never noticed a darn thing, I just used it because it was supposed to be good for you. I noticed something with chia the first day.

Omega Nutrition Cold Milled Flax Seeds, 15-Ounces Review

Omega Nutrition Cold Milled Flax Seeds, 15-Ounces
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I wanted to add flax to my diet because of all the talk about the importance of Omega. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, even though I'd read some reviews. The packaging is excellent--it seals up easily and keeps the seeds fresh. I keep them in the freezer because I've read that's the best choice.
They're really easy to add to yogurt and oatmeal--my typical approach. I haven't tried baking with it yet, but it seems like that would be easy, too. I like that they're already ground because it means that I don't have to do anything before adding it to my breakfast. (If I had to get out the grinder, grind the flax, and then clean the grinder, I'd use less of it.)
Convenience is definitely why I chose this particular package, and I'm really glad that I did--I've been very happy with the quality of the product.

Omega 3 Chia By Greens Plus - 1 Pound 100% Chia Seeds Omega3 Greens+ Review

Omega 3 Chia By Greens Plus - 1 Pound 100% Chia Seeds Omega3 Greens+

Nutritional benefits of Chia seeds are amazing. Here are a few to start:
*According to studies, Chia possesses the highest percentage of the polyunsaturated fatty acids(linolenic and linoleic) of all crops. Chia seeds contain 60% omega 3 fatty acids.
*The protein content of Chia is higher that other nutritional grains. Unlike other grains, it is a complete protein, meaning that it has the appropriate balance of all essential amino acids. About 19 to 23% of chia seeds weight is protein.
*Chia seeds are high in fiber, a 15 gm serving of chia seeds will provide 4 to 5 gm of fiber. Our body requires at least 35 gm of fiber a day to stay healthy.
*Chia seeds contain boron which is essential for bone health.
*Chia seeds are rich in calcium, about 2 oz of chia seeds contains 600 mg of Calcium, as compared to 120 mg for a cup of milk.
*Chia seeds have 2 times more potassium than banana.
*Chia seeds have 3 times more antioxidants than blueberriesRegardless of the astonishing nutritional values of Chia, it also tastes very good. My girlfriend and I make a big pot of "steel cut" oatmeal at night (the quick way is throw a cup of oats in 4 cups of boiling water and just let it sit overnight), put in a good helping of chia seeds, and the next morning you have a wonderful breakfast that could last all week depending on how many people are eating it. Feel free to add a little cinnamon, peanut butter, fruit, or your own oatmeal favorite additions.
There are many other recipes for eating Chia, but oatmeal is my personal favorite. I started eating Chia last year after reading the NY Times Bestseller 'Born to Run' about how a tribe of Mexicans that eat Chia will drink beer, smoke tobacco, and then run up to 500 miles in a footrace. One of the primary contributors to their physical ability is that their diet is full of the nutrient-rich Chia seeds. I started out paying an arm-and-a-leg at Whole Foods for Chia seeds, but have since started buying them on Amazon for a fraction of the price.
Buy some Chia seeds and make a delicious bowl of oatmeal for one of the healthiest breakfasts possible.

One of the primary contributors to the tribal Mexicans' seemingly supernatural physical ability is that their diet is full of the nutrient-rich Chia seeds. I haven't put in 500 miles. But after previously failing to finish a 26-mile marathon without chia in my diet, I added chia to my diet and my knees allowed me to finish my first 26-mile marathon! Could the chia seeds have helped? I think so. I certainly had more energy and my joints felt better my second attempt at a marathon when "on" the chia.
I started out paying an arm-and-a-leg at Whole Foods for Navitas Naturals Chia Seeds, but have since started buying chia on Amazon for a fraction of the price. Buy some Chia seeds and make a delicious bowl of oatmeal for one of the healthiest breakfasts possible. The only thing I would suggest is to buy a bulk 2lb or 3lb bag for a lower $/ounce than this small package. Eat it frequently with oatmeal and it will be gone before you know it!

Chia Seeds 2 Pounds Review

To get the most out of Chia, make Chia Gel. It's one part Chia Seeds to 9 parts water. I make it in a Mason jar (shake or stir until the seeds begin to suspend in the gel) and keep it in the refrigerator. It creates a thick gel that you can add to most anything and it doesn't change the flavor. There's lots of info on the Web. Have a look! Chia seeds are phenomenal.

Not a fine powder, more of a flakiness to it and I like it better than the powdered ones. I have chronic constipation, so I use this stuff on a regular basis. This is a good affordable organic brand.

I definitely prefer the Now Foods chia seeds over the Greens+ chia seed which has a strange odor I have never smelled on another chia seed and tastes chemically; Greens+ must have sprayed them with something or maybe it is absorbing something from the plastic canister, I do not know.

CHIA SEED BENEFITS FOR YOUR HEALTH
Chia is an evidence-based registered variety of Salvia hispanica L. and is nutritionally superior to flax and soy. Chia is the richest non-marine whole food source of Omega-3 and dietary fiber currently known to man.
Promotes Cardiovascular Health:
According to the American Heart Association, Omega-3 fatty acids can normalize blood pressure and bad cholesterol levels, while helping promote healthy heart and blood vessels.
Assists Joint Function & Mobility:
With six times more calcium than milk, and with greater amounts of high-quality protein than the one found in soy, Chia also helps strengthen muscles and bones.
Improves Digestion & Natural Detoxification:
Chia can absorb a whopping 12+ times its weight in water - flax seed only absorbs 6-8 times its weight. Chia's insoluble fiber reduces digestive transit time and removes toxins as it passes through the digestive tract.
Supports Healthy Weight Loss:
Chia's high fiber content and its ability to reduce blood sugar levels after meals inhibits the appetite, thus making it the perfect food for healthy, effective weight loss. Thanks to its neutral flavor and color, Chia integrates seamlessly into any healthy recipe.

100% Pure White Chia Seed 16 oz (454 grams) Pkg Review

I have been using this product for quite sometime now. It's a great way to get a portion of our daily fiber intake. I normally grind it up along with some flax seed in the morning, but have eaten the seeds whole too. Great taste I think and would recommend anyone try this as well. I was unaware I could purchase Swanson products at Amazon. I believe Swanson has some of the best products and prices available in the market today.
