I did a bit of reading (links and experts below) on Niacin for increasing HDL. The "non-flush" Niacin has very little affect on HDL, and it is my impression only "flush" Niacin has medical value. I am also under the impression one needs 500 mg a day for improvement. These are flush Niacin capsules of 250 mg each, and I take one in the morning, another at night, and I do not have any skin flushing or uncomfortable side affects at all. I highly recommend this product.

"Niacin has been used since the 1950s to improve cholesterol profile. Several well-designed double-blind, placebo-controlled studies have found that niacin can reduce LDL ("bad") cholesterol by approximately 10% and triglycerides by 25% while raising HDL ("good") cholesterol by 20% to 30%. 24-29 Niacin also lowers levels of lipoprotein(a)--another risk factor for atherosclerosis--by about 35%. Long-term studies have shown that use of niacin can significantly reduce death rates from cardiovascular disease."

"So, with very little nicotinic acid in the blood seen in this study, as well as the lack of evidence seen in other studies, it is doubtful that flush-free niacin is effective in lowering cholesterol."
