Balance Bar Nutrition Energy Bar, 1.76-Ounce Bars (Pack of 15) Review

(More customer reviews)I've reviewed a lot of these products, and most have some common flaws: Bad, "unnatural," or chemical-like taste (especially in the metallic after-taste), woefully stale, cardboard-like texture, high fat content, and relatively high price.
Given all the chemicals listed below, it came as a great surprise that this is a DELICIOUS snack, certainly one of the best of the many I've tried. No strange aftertaste, and real hints of honey (the peanut is a little harder to discern). The texture is soft but with some heft, and, on entry one senses honey, sugar, a hint of peanut and oil, and a vague spicy background. IT's excellent, and not as sweet as the similar but too-sugary (for my taste) yoghurt honey peanut flavor.
My only complaints (and this comes from the head, not the taste, Bud) are the plethora of vitamin and mineral additives (just a personal preference there), and the 3.5 grams of saturated fat, and 17 grams of sugar. However, this is within the range, I believe, of most of these products.
On the positive side, you get 14 grams of sugar, and high percentage of the recommended daily values of a range of vitamins and minerals. Have one of these with a 2-3 lasses of water and you will feel full. Also great as a post work-out pick-me-up. Of course, please consult your health care provider for specific recommendations for your personal use.
I'm not sure how they did it, but Balance has set a new bar (pun intended) for taste!

This creamy coconut cream pie bar is a taste of the heavens. Literally and figeratively. Figurately because they taste so good, it tastes like food of the heavens, plus they are so healthy. Literally because they are made in Denver. I just got back from a little vacation in Denver and Colorado Springs; Colorado is as beautiful as a slice of heaven.
These bars are healthy. They are made with fruits and nuts. There are no added sugars, chemicals, preservatives, etc.
These bars taste awesome. It is amazing to me how they can make the bars taste exactly like whatever the flavor is. For example, cherry pie bar tastes exactly like cherry pie; pecan pie bar tastes exactly like pecan pie, etc. This review is for coconut cream pie, and these bars tastes exactly like coconut cream pie.
These bars are vegan-friendly.
These bars are good for anyone on a diet, or anyone who is health-conscious.
These bars are convenient. They can be packed into lunches or snacks; there is no mixing or measuring or cutting or cooking required.
These bars are just awesome!!!!
And this bar, coconut cream pie bar, is absolutely outstanding!!!!!

(More customer reviews)I purchased the flavor mix pack a few months back. It wasn't from this link, but I assume this is the same product. I will agree that it is very frustrating they don't tell you exactly what it is. This is the review I posted - hope it helps.
I just wanted to leave a note of what the composition of the Mixed Flavors pack looked like. I had a hard time finding information on what exactly I'd get. I'm sure they change could change this from time to time, but this is what I had:
"Roctane" Gu packets (1 each): Blueberry Pomegranate, Vanilla Orange, Cherry Lime, Pineapple. These are the high endurance packets. The Blueberry Pom and Vanilla Orange are both double caffeine, Cherry Lime is normal caffeine and the Pineapple has no caffeine.
Regular Gu Packets had 3 of Chocalate Outrage and Vanilla Bean. The rest had two of each flavor: Strawberry Banana, TriBerry, Expresso Love, Mandarin Orange, Jet Blackberry, Mint Chocolate, Lemon Sublime. The Strawberry Banana, Mint Chocolate, and Lemon Sublime have no caffeine, while Jet Blackberry and Expresso Love are double caffeine - everything else is normal caffeine.
If you're looking to shake it up or find a favorite flavor, I think this is a good buy. I don't know that Gu is the best energy gel out there - I actually think everyone just has to find out what they like in taste and texture and what their stomach can handle. I've had good luck with Gu myself and I look forward to trying all the flavors.

I was at the hair salon one day and someone offered me one of these PowerBar Triple Treat Energy Bars at lunch time. I was ready to go out and buy them at the market - forgot - came home - looked on Amazon and there they were. So reasonable, and now I never am without at least a 2 case-back-up. I have the Prime so I do not have to pay shipping at Amazon.
Everyone who visits me seems to like them and I tend to give a lot of them away, but they are really good. Who would think they could have carmel and nuts and chocolate and be a Power Bar? But they do and they do stick with me. I always have one or two in my car and make certain they are upstairs so I can stall dinner if I am busy. I live alone.
Do you know I can have Tide delivered to my door without paying shipping with the Prime at Amazon. I am not a shill - but because I live alone and am older, these things help me a lot.

Then I tried one, and was puzzled. Yes, I could taste some almond, but WOW, the main flavor was PEANUTS. The ingredients list peanuts as the largest amount of nuts. This should be called the Peanut, Almond Bar. If one likes to have the main flavor of a nut bar as peanuts, you will enjoy this.
The quality of KIND products I appreciate, as well as the low GI, the natural properties, and having a healthier choice. But honesty in advertising and product would be appreciated.
I was disappointed with the deception, and the unexpectedly strong flavor of peanuts, as I purchased it for the nuts I like best, which were supposed to be the main source of nut protein.

They come in two types: Caramel peanut which is like a snickers and chocolate caramel which is like a chocolate cookies and creme. They each give you 30 grams of protein which really helps you get through the morning or late afternoon with something good for you rather than just sugar. The only problem is you should have them delivered next day during the summer or 2nd day other times of the year. If they are exposed to heat they go bad quickly and start to taste like the other protein bars.

It has true flavors (think a chewy chocolate brownie with small chocolate chips), little or no "off" flavors or aftertastes, and it's relatively filling, especially if accompanied by water or an additional quick snack, such as fruit. It's a small bar, but it's packed with 3 grams of fiber (12% of daily needs based on a 2,000 calorie diet), and it's certified 95% organic. These organic ingredients include organic rolled oats, organic oat Flour, organic oat fiber, organic and milled flaxseed, and actual natural flavors. Even the sweet stuff is organic:, including organic chocolate (made with--you guessed it--organic evaporated cane juice), soy butter, cocoa powder, cocoa butter, tapioca syrup, and fig paste. CLIF's website proclaims that "CLIF ZBar is the first kids' snack created to comply with SB-19, California's Senate Bill limiting fat and sugar in foods offered within the state's school system...We source ingredients which do not contain wheat and are not genetically engineered." (More customer reviews)I make no claims to sports nutrition (or any nutrition for that matter)expertise, so I'll just call it a snack, and leave its place in your exercise program between you and your personal doctor/nutritionist/coach/guru. However, I will say that this is a much better than average tasting sports bar/snack (name your preference), free of the cardboad-ish and stale texture and barely identifiable aftertastes common to similar products.
While noone will compare this to a real apple crisp, this convenient food for those on the go has recognizable tastes of oats (this flavor and texture predominates), apple, and cinnamon, due in large part, I suspect, to the fact that it actually contains those ingredients! There are also raisins, cane and other sugars--including fructose from fruit juices-- giving it a sweet but not cloying (as they say at the wineries) taste. This company is known for its quality ingredients and generally consumer-friendly face; you can read more about them at powerbar.com. The company recommends consuming this with water to aid the absorption of the many added nutrients--this also gives one a more "full" feeling. One of the better tasting snacks of this type; I've listed nutritional information and ingredients (from the web site) below.

They stand up well in hot conditions - good for travel. I did try "cookie dough" and I'm not sure which is worse, the texture or the flavor. They are soft on arrival so heat is not your friend with these bars.

(More customer reviews)We discovered Luna Bars at a grocery store recently when they were on sale for a dollar apiece. We bought one of each kind to see which ones we like best. We figured for that price how could we go wrong. Well after trying all of them, my wife has weighed in...
HER FAVORITE: Chocolate Pecan Pie.
She loves Chocolate. She lives on Chocolate. And since we're on a diet similar to Body for Life and has a hard time stomaching the whey-filled protein bars, these are a welcome treat. They aren't overloaded with protein, but for the calories are extremely comparable to the leading protein bars (in a calorie-protein ratio comparison). Our only complain with the bars is that they're a little high in fat, especially saturated. Nevertheless, they are much, much better than most other treats out there.
Now, where to buy? Well Amazon of course. It is great. Amazon is the same price as local stores when they are on sale except Amazon provides free shipping and no tax (not to mention no driving to the grocery store or healthfood store) so they actually end up being cheaper on here everyday than elsewhere on sale. We always buy all of our drinks and bars on Amazon. A word of caution though, be careful which Amazon vender you buy from. Vitamin Shoppe is usually the cheapest but sometimes direct from Amazon is comparable. The other venders tend to be more expensive. Hope this helps.

The Energy Bites are very good tasting; in fact, so good, that they could make a good snack to enjoy during a movie. They may not be as "portable" as a regular Performance bar which you can grab and eat while you pedal, but I still prefer these considering how difficult it is to peel the bars.

(More customer reviews)I am an endurance athlete who does long distance events. Powerbars are a staple of my pre and post-workout fueling regime. They are calorie dense (250 per bar) and combine protein and carbs (40 g. carbs, 8g protein) which the current research says is most optimal for performance. You are feel "full" during your training without discomfort or cramps. Plus, I just like the way they taste, but they all taste similar. Avoid the berry varieties and fruit flavors:) The downside of the bars is that they are not for "on the run"--they are rather chewy and need to be well digested. They also get hard in the cold, so do not bring with you on runs in the winter:)
Dieters, beware: these bars are not for weightloss, but performance. 250 calories is about the equivalent amount of calories in a donut, so make sure you're working out, too:)

The other brands like planters are way too sweet for me and cause my blood sugar to spike. These are not to sweet or salty and are low glycemic so they don't make me sleepy.
