(More customer reviews)I read the "Turbo Protein Diet" book which heavliy marketed and based its diet on the Almased powder. To give the diet a fair chance, I ordered the Almased. While it appears to be of high quality, thickens up the shake well (I only used water to limit the amount of calories and carbs), and tastes acceptable - it does help you drop pounds as promised in the book. HOWEVER, I am big on getting good deals and getting the most for my money. To this aim I also ordered Spirutein strawberry flavored protein powder. After losing 10 pounds on the Almased, I started flavoring my shakes with the Spirutein. Once I ran out of Almased, I continued the diet using only the Spirutein with the same results. Another 10 pounds lost. My non-scientific conclusion? You can get the same results using Spirutein, save over 30% the expense of Almased, get a better tasting shake and Spriutein also comes in banana, chocolate and other flavors. BTW - Spriutein is also non-GMO, all natural and very comparable to Almased.

Now Foods, Xylitol Review

(More customer reviews)I wanted to share that my own experience with finding xylitol was nothing short of a miracle. I can enjoy food in moderation that I was denying myself. I say moderation, because xylitol can cause soft or even liquid stool if you overdo it. It's not safe for pets because they get severe hypoglycemia quickly which can kill them, especially puppies and kittens. What I do is mix this with stevia drops and I can then use that concentration for coffee and tea all day without ill effects. I feel I need to address some reviews that people have on xylitol, not necessarily from Now foods specifically. I am concerned about people buying a new product without checking what it is and then giving it bad reviews for effects written clearly on the bag. It would be different if the manufacturer was being deceptive but honestly, don't feed your kids something if you don't know what it is and then want it taken off the market. For some people this is a miracle food. Research any food you are going to put into your body or even bring into your home. It is not a manufacturers job or governments job to tell you what to eat. I'm not saying this to be mean, it's just that we've become way too passive about our own responsibility.

(More customer reviews)I had an annual cholesterol test, and it was high as it always is. The doctor warned me again that the meds I take will harm my liver, and liver test also was elevated. I had to find a way to lower the levels. I started taking both Chitosan and Red Yeast Rice. After 3 months, I had another blood test done. After I have been taking this combination for just 3 months, my cholesterol had dropped 40 points. I have had only one test since starting the supplements, so can not say for sure if it was a fluke, or if it truly does reduce the cholesterol level. I do believe it is helping. This was my second batch of supplements, and until I find that my blood test proves differently, I will continue to take this combination. Your results may differ from mine.

this item was purchased to alleviate the formation of uric acid crystals that form the known condition called "gout". The Person whom it is intended for has diabetes - a malady that leads to gout since the excess sugar prhohibits the release of uric acid in the kidneys to the urine, so uric acid builds up in the blood an lymph. The effect of taking 4 capsules/day (2 in the AM and 2 in the PM) was moderate. But when done in conjunction to taking 5 times a week 2 TBS ACV with water and 1/4 Ts baking soda AM and PM on empty stomache - the results were more than satisfactory (the ACV+NaHCO3 lower blood sugar levels).
so if you are not diabetic but drink a lot of soft drinks - this formula will aid you as well.

The reason is that the folate molecule is carried on a chain of gluten molecules. If you can't process gluten, you cannot access folate. In the methyl version, the folate is freed (optimized) from the gluten molecule and is now available for use throughout the body.
I began taking methylfolate because I had celiac psychosis. It is caused by a lack of neurotransmitters in the brain. Most neurotransmitters are built on folate (nor-epinephrine, dopamine, serotonin, etc) Long-time undiagnosed celiacs cannot build neurotransmitters because of the inability to access folate. The methyl form prevents and reverses celiac psychosis.
Folate is essential to the repair of the gut lining and immune system, both of which are destroyed in celiac disease. I hope this product restores your health as it has mine. It probably saved my life. (don't forget to maintain gluten-free diet for a lifetime as well - but take this product!!)

My endocrinologist suggested it, since my oral diabetes medicine (metformin) seemed to be affecting my natural absorption of this vitamin, which he describes as needed for nerve health (and therefore a concern in diabetes patients, to avoid neuropathy) I take one in the morning, tucking it under my tongue as I get ready and commute into work. It does take a while to dissolve, because it is a fairly large pill, but it is usually gone in 15-20 minutes. It has a pleasant fruity taste, and is in the dosage range he advised. At first I tried a B multivitamin, but the amount of B12 in it was nowhere near what he wanted, and I would have to take too many pills (and end up with too much of all the other B vitamins, which I didn't need)
My B12 number has gone from too low, to outside the range on the high side. B12 has a low toxicity level and has no complications in most individuals, so he is not concerned that I'm outside the clinical range on the high side. (my lab sheet says the target range is 211-936 pg/mL - my latest two results have been hovering around 1500 - I believe I started in the 140s - very low)
Source Naturals is one of my favorite brands of supplements. I have been using their sublingual melatonin for over a decade. I believe them to be a trustworthy manufacturer, based on my experiences.

(More customer reviews)I recently switched from the One Touch UltraSoft lancets to the Delica lancets. They have a noticeably smaller needle. Combined with the Delica lancing device's new design, it makes for the least painful lancing experience I have had in my 43 years of diabetes. I highly recommend these--
--with one caveat--
They are very small--about one inch in length, and then it breaks in two when you decap it. If you have neuropathy, arthritis, or any other condition leading to a lack of dexterity in your hands, you may really struggle to pick these up and dispose of them.

(More customer reviews)this will take some getting used to. what can compare to sugar when you're not allowed to have it. i baked a cheesecake with this and used only 1.5 teaspoons! the cheesecake was great!
my problem is my morning decaf...i am so used to sweet coffee! i used to put 3 equals or splendas in my cup..well until i noticed that i was forgetting things!!! my memory took a vacation so to speak on the equal and i believe the same for the slenda. so ok i use about 1/2 teaspoon of stevita in my coffee, and i get a sweetness that is very noticable.
i no longer use equal or splenda and i don't get that brain fade anymore!!!
this is really a great product! it will also teach you to steer away from that icky sweet taste we love so much which is'nt good for us anyway!
it will not spike your insulin as well.
i use the 16 ounce bulk canister..but the 2000 packets is a great deal too!
update: let me save you money...i purchased the stevita herb in its natural state....it tastes nasty! i thought i would be slick and make liquid out of the herb..it is a brownish green powdered herb and now i have like 5 lbs of it and there is no way i am going to ever use it! yuck! this stevita sold in the 16 oz canister is the best you can get as far as taste! stick with it..it is great!

(More customer reviews)The "CarbRite Toasted Coconut Bars" are a good choice for those seeking low carb snacks. I have tried several different types of the CarbRite bars and the Toasted Coconut is my favorite. Being a type 2 diabetic, I am always looking for low carb products that taste good. Here are my observations:
Pros:
+ Good Tasting; these are not candy bars and the coconut flavor is subtle, but they taste much better than most other "low carb" bars I have tried
+ Low Carb; only 2 NET carbs, but a lot of the other carbs come from Maltitol (see "Cons", below)
+ High Protein; 18g per bar
+ Very Filling; unlike a lot of other low carb snacks, these bars are actually fairly filling (likely due to the high protein content)
Cons:
- Contains Maltitol, which can cause "gastric distress" in some people - start of with small amounts if you don't know it will affect your system
Misc:
* 120 Calories per bar, but 60 of those are from fat
* Chewy Consistency
Overall, these bars are a satisfying low carb snack choice that have a good flavor and do not significantly impact my blood sugar levels.
Recommended! As I note above, there are several flavors made by CarbRite and I also like Doctor's CarbRite Diet Sugar Free Bar, Chocolate Brownie, 2-Ounce Bars (Pack of 12)

New Chapter Cinnamonforce Review

(More customer reviews)Like so many natural substances, cinnamon is the subject of dozens of health claims. It's touted as the answer to everything from weight loss and improving memory to alleviating arthritis pain. Does it work? Beats me. Since I like cinnamon and don't get a sufficient amount in the foods I eat regularly, I've been taking cinnamon capsules for a few months in the hope that it might work to regulate my blood sugar and lower my LDL levels. My results have been good but truthfully, I have no idea whether it's thanks to the cinnamon, the other changes in diet I've put into effect or a combination of the two. Since I don't seem to be suffering any ill effects from the cinnamon capsules and may actually be reaping a benefit, I plan to continue them.
The capsules that I had been taking are much more potent than the New Chapter Cinnamonforce capsules. I had been ingesting 2 to 3 grams a day as opposed to the 140 mg recommended by New Chapter. True, my old capsules are Cinnamomum Cassia and not the combination of Cinnamomum Aromaticum (cassia) and Cinnamomum Verum that's contained in the Cinnamonforce, but as I read that several studies were conducted using only the cassia (which is cheaper and more commonly available), I'm not sure how noteworthy that is.
In short, the Cinnamonforce capsules are small, very pleasant tasting and easy to take but are significantly less potent and more expensive than many other available brands of cinnamon capsules on the market.

(More customer reviews)A few years ago (2004) my sugar started to go up into the bad zone (ie, I had been prediabetic for a while with Metabolic Syndrome, but the sugar was now out of the normal zone and heading into diabetic.) Well, I did a couple things. I stopped eating carbs alone (began a habit of eating fruits and starches only with some fat and protein) and I started taking cinnamon supplementation (real in food, capsules, then I tried this, Cinnergen).
My sugar got down to normal without losing weight (which is the best way to do it, but hey, tough, right?). Right down to the nineties, then eighties. No need for medication. yay.
I slacked off in the last year, since I started eating organic and more produce, but I do see that my sugar has come to the nineties. Before it goes back to 121 (the number that scared me into using cinnamon and food pairing to start), I ordered this again.
I love the flavor and it's so easy to take the dosage as directed. Nicer experience than just downing capsules.
If you don't use real cinnamon liberally and want to keep your sugar in a nicer zone, give this a shot. Worked for me.
