In one such interview she sat across from 3 endocrinologists to defend the medical information she gleaned from interviews with several physicians in the writing of her book. Why the hot debate? Why was Ms. Somers named in a "citizen's complaint" by Wyeth-Ayerst (the makers of Premarin and Provera) saying she is the source of a loss of $70 million in sales? What is this war about? It's about you, the reader. You must not learn enough to feel brave enough to make your own choices. The channels to a broader access to a wider source of information about hormones and health than what the pharmaceutical companies provide must be shut down to a tiny trickle. Suzanne represents a wide open channel of information. She has "star power" and is devoting it to making this information, which is available to anyone who looks for it, available to everyone to find.
She didn't sit down and write this book by making this stuff up. She interviewed prominent physicians all over the country who are practicing this type of holistic, bio-identical hormone replacement with men and women. These doctors are conscientious, thorough, study hard, know what they are doing and do not just accept the pharmaceutical companies' slogans, because they have seen that physiologically it doesn't make sense, they have read research that contradicts the reassurances of the salesmen and they see the negative effects on their patients. So they looked for alternatives.
I know this because that is how I came to be an alternative medicine physician. We found each other thanks to organizations like the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine and the Life Extension Foundation, and American College for the Advancement of Medicine, and others like it. We found in the last decade that there are thousands of physicians like us who are dissatisfied with what pharmaceuticals offer, and know we can do more and better for our patients.
Right now there is a war going on over the changes in medicine. Maybe you feel it and see it, maybe you don't..yet. But doctors like us are pulling away from the establishment, and want to serve people again. Insurance companies don't like us, pharmaceutical companies don't like us. We put choice in your hands, we educate you. We hope to prevent degenerative diseases, to extend the vibrancy of youthful energy and zest for life well into old age.
Suzanne's book interviews a few of these doctors. There are now thousands of us. If you learn nothing else from reading this book, you will learn that there are options out there, and that you have a choice. Don't give up on that, or on your health.
