I recently found out that I have a magnesium deficiency. My doctor suggested I take a magnesium supplement, but didn't offer any guidance. After doing some modest internet searching I found out that not all compounds are equal in their bioavailability nor are their side effects necessarily comparable. After discussing options with my parents who are both in family practice they helped me narrow down my options to Maginex. A year ago I had Lapband surgery so seeing that this came with the option of powder too, I was sold on trying it--it's a pain in the rear to have to cut up any pills I take.
All in all the powder doesn't taste bad. They call it "lemon" and it kinda tastes like lemon in mineral water. The first few days I could drink it straight, but since then have found it is much more palatable in 4-6 oz of lemonade.
Also in the first few days I started with one packet and had a very mild increase in gas. After about three days I upped my dose to two packets and a few days later to three (which is based on guidance from my doctor). Increasing slowly caused no lasting side effects.
Studies that have been done on magnesium supplementation have shown that patients tend to see benefits in 6-8 weeks. I plan to have my blood work redone toward the end of January, so I will update the review if my magnesium levels actually improve.
The only reason I left my review as 4 stars instead of five is because I like to base my reviews on data, not just opinions.
