(More customer reviews)Overall, I've had good experienced with J/A/S/O/N products. Although their name is a little peculiar. Why not just "Jason" without all the accents? ;-) I've mostly used their toothpaste and deodorants.
Recently, I ran low on my usual JASON deodorant and decided to go with this one, "Naturally Fresh For Men, 70% Organic". I figured that this would be a good move, seeing how natural it is compared to other products. Many deodorants on the market today are saturated with chemicals, stuff we really shouldn't have our bodies absorbing--the worst culprit of all being aluminum. But aluminum is only the big Kahuna... there are plenty of other ingredients that haven't even been given enough attention. Rather than chance it, best to go with something more natural.
First off, there is no "fragrance" to this deodorant, but there is an aroma. At first whiff, it's really very mild. The texture is very dry. I tried it out and it seemed OK. But I found that it wasn't very effective. It didn't work as well at masking odor. I'm not a particularly "pungent" guy, but like anyone else there's a "build up" over the day that I'd like to mask. Also, I don't use one deodorant exclusively until it runs out. I rotate between a couple of them. This Jason deodorant was my choice for a period of about two months. Although I found it not as effective as others, I figured it just took time to adjust to it. Well, I was WRONG.
At the end of one particular day of just some light physical exertion, I noticed that I had a "stronger" than usual scent. I smelled as if I hadn't used any deodorant that day, when I actually had used it. The next day I made sure to apply a little more (of the JASON). And despite NO physical exertion that day, I found that in the evening I had become "pungent". My girlfriend even noticed it. I went to the bathroom cabinet and got out a different fragrant deodorant and "refreshed" myself. However, the next day, I took out the JASON deodorant again. Before applying it, I began to notice a peculiar smell. I put my nose up to it... AHHHH!! It was horrible nose stinging stench. I'm not kidding! This deodorant took on a life of its own.
So, I got to thinking... it makes sense, really. Your armpits have bacteria that give off a scent. This JASON deodorant is 70% organic. It's a totally enclosed environment when capped. So, it's a perfect environment for bacteria to reproduce. Apparently there's not enough acidic ingredient to fight off bacteria that is left behind after use.
I contacted JASON over the phone. They were VERY friendly with me. I explained what happened. They are sending me a prepaid return envelope for the deodorant, so they can examine it to figure out what went wrong (this "Naturally Fresh For Men" deodorant has been on the market since 2005, with no rash of complaints on record). And they're giving me a coupon for a free replacement.
Now, maybe there was a "bad batch" or something... I've never had this problem with any other deodorant. That's why I took the time to write about it here. But I will say this, I will not buy this particular product again. I have that combined smell of the product and pungent body odor forever linked together... I'll still buy JASON deodorants, but NOT this one.
