KEEP IN MIND THAT STANDARDIZED SILYMARIN IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO

IN A NUTSHELL: VERY SAFE BUT THERAPEUTIC BENEFITS COME ONLY FROM STANDARDIZED DOSES LIKE THE "VITAMIN SHOPPE" BRAND ITEM OFFERED FOR SALE HERE FROM THE VITAMIN SHOPPE
The current scientific literature shows that Milk Thistle, standardized to 80% "Silymarin", in doses of about 600 mg. per day offer therapeutic benefits in the maintenance of a healthy liver. THAT WOULD BE 2.5 CAPSULES OF THE VITAMIN SHOPPE BRAND PRODUCT BEING OFFERED HERE! COST: ABOUT .60 CENTS for 600 mg. of silymarin.
Specifically, clinical research has shown that; Alcohol-related liver disease, Hepatitis, Liver cirrhosis and Gallstones are conditions that standardized Milk Thistle has been shown to improve over a period of at least 8-12 weeks of continued use.
CAUTION:
Bear in mind that some of the above conditions are potentially fatal, and all are serious. Therefore, the care of a qualified physician is necessary, and the use of any product should NOT be considered to be an adequate self-treatment as a cure or preventative.
HAVING SAID THAT:
Standardized Milk Thistle, such as the product being offered here, is very beneficial to people who take presciptions drugs, are exposed to environmental toxins or that have concerns about the health of their Liver. Fortunately, Milk thistle is among the safest herbs one can consume, but standardization for Silymarin is essential if a therapeutic effect is desired.
ABOUT BRANDS: EQUAL TO THE "SWANSON SUPERIOR HERB" LABEL: BUT COSTS MORE
Yes, of course I think "Nature's Way" is tops and "Now" is excellent, but "Swanson Superior Herbs" product is the one on my shelf. Honestly, for me, this is a matter of cost, and the Swanson product costs much less than half as much as the Nature's Way product. Occasionally, Swanson runs buy 1 & get 1 free promos for this specific product. That is when I get mine, generally I buy 3 and get 3 free.
AND ABOUT THIS "VITAMIN SHOPPE" PRODUCT?
Regarding this "VITAMIN SHOPPE" product in terms of value, you get 17% more silymarin per capsule than from the "Swanson Superior Herb" product, but they cost .24 per capsule to Swanson's .03-.06 cents per capsule depending on the promotion. In fact, this would be my second choice to Swanson's, except it still costs more than "Nature's Way" brand would cost per dose and about 40% more than the "NOW" brand.
In fairness, there are some important products that the "Vitamin Shoppe" brand has everyone beat on. Their high potency Coleus is one that comes to mind and I must review it soon.
WHY & HOW TO TAKE MILK THISTLE:
I take 3-4 capsules per day, on an empty stomach. I take Milk thistle because I take a large number of prescription medicines, and have for over twenty years. Naturally, I wish to help keep my Liver healthy, and this is one way I believe that I can. I do my own research and my only motivation is the continued health of my family and myself.
