(More customer reviews)Another reviewer said the product smelled terrible. Kelp does smell terrible and fishy. When I take straight kelp powder and water it makes me gag. Just mix in a little soy sauce or Bragg's Amino Acids and get it down. If you don't like the taste, you can take kelp pills, some of which have a buffer in them that makes them shiny. That slows down absorption, but it kills the taste. Some of the pills that are loosely packed can also make you gag. NOW is a reputable and low-cost manufacturer. You should be glad they're willing to sell kelp powder so cheaply. Another seaweed source is dulse, the kind of seaweed used to wrap sushi. You can buy it in any Chinese or Korean store in various thicknesses and it's much more palatable than kelp. I eat that raw in sheets. It's delicious. Incidentally, kelp is one food that some people on chemotherapy can eat without vomiting. It has a very neutral effect on the stomach and intestines. I knew a woman on chemotherapy who was practically living on 80 kelp pills a day. She probably had fairly high iodine levels, but nothing to worry about. Kelp as a sea vegetable contains most of the trace elements found in the sea, many of which are not found in land vegetables, especially vegetables grown in depleted soil. It also is a potent antioxidant. I personally avoid kelp-alfalfa mixtures, which also taste better, because I'm after kelp.
