It has been announced that the Council of Europe Parliament has unanimously proposed to start an investigation this month into "the influence of the pharmaceutical companies on the global swine flu campaign." In other words, to look into the companies' attempt to terrify people (via the news media) into lining up for expensive vaccines they did not need, for a flu that is really no worse than the ordinary one. This made me feel better about refusing to line up for an H1N1 shot that was hastily produced and, in 800,000 recalled cases, discovered to be too weak to do its job for which it was designed. But it didn't solve the biggest problem I had, which was AVOIDING THE MOTHER-F*ING FLU.
The last time I got the flu, in February of '09, I was so miserable I thought I'd have to go to the hospital. I ached as if beaten by Rocky Marciano, my lips blistered from the fever, and I had malarial chills fit to rattle my teeth. Even my HAIR hurt. When I finally recovered from this filthy plague, I swore I'd never go through such torment again; but having no previous success with flu shots, and no present trust in them, I didn't know where to look for an alternative. Then, while listening to some subversive radio program, I heard about "wild oil of oregano" Supposedly there are Biblical references to it as a healing herb, and it is highly recommended by the alternative-medicine crowd as a natural, homeopathic germicide, effective against colds and flus. I was deeply suspicious, but it was flu season yet again, so decided I had little to lose by buying a bottle.
I have to admit that I was at first very much put off by the taste. Wild oil of oregano smells just like pizza - not merely because of the oregano, it's served in a suspension of olive oil - but it tastes like @#$%. I mean it is horrible. Sublingual (under the tongue) ingestion burns like hell, and drinking it at normal speed, mixed with water, is no better. The only way to choke the stuff down is to do a "shot" of it as fast as you can, say two ounces of water with 2 - 4 drops. Even then it's not that much fun.
But does it actually work? I can only tell you my experiences, unscientific as they may be. I've been taking the stuff for about 90 days now, and in that time (knock on wood) I've had no sickness of any sort, despite the fact that in that time my girlfriend (who teaches Kindergarten) has been sick twice and everyone I work with has had the flu. Furthermore, on one occasion I ate completely RANCID shrimp but, after triple-dosing with the stuff, suffered no aftereffects at all, not even indigestion. Could all of this be a coincidence, or could this stuff actually do what some people claim it does - kill 99% of germs and bacteria? The only answer I can give you is that when my supply runs out (and one ounce of this stuff lasts a long time at 4 - 6 drops per day), I will certainly buy more. What's more, it's about 1/3 cheaper through Amazon than it is at health food stores. The only reason it gets 4 stars instead of 5 is taste, and to avoid the plague I'm more than willing to put up with it.
