(More customer reviews)It is very rare that I ever right a review for a supplement for the fact that there is a lot of debate as to whether or not they are needed. With a balanced diet most are not needed and can actually be harmful or a complete waste of money. Magnesium on the other hand is one that many people are lacking because there are few foods that you find it in. And the foods that you do find it in it's rare that a normal person could consume enough of that food to get 100% of your DRV (daily recommended value).
So some quick facts about Magnesium. This mineral is deeply associated with the production of energy, the central nervous system functions, electrolyte balance, oxygen uptake (I have asthma and it helps!), glucose metabolism and muscle function/activity.
During the time that I've been taking this magnesium supplement, I have had less asthma symptoms and improved muscle function (while lifting weights I don't get the muscle twitches/spasms). So I am personally a believer of adding a magnesium supplement to your diet ONLY if you are not getting enough through your normal diet.
The DRV of magnesium varies between sex and age, so here are some guidelines.
Children: 1-3 years old: 80 milligrams
4-8 years old: 130 milligrams
9-13 years old: 240 milligrams
14-18 years old (boys): 410 milligrams
14-18 years old (girls): 360 milligrams
Adult females: 310 milligrams
Pregnancy: 360-400 milligrams
Breastfeeding women: 320-360 milligrams
Adult males: 400 milligrams
And for those who want to know the foods that are high in magnesium, they include nuts and seeds (pumpkin is one of the best), spinach, okra, pantains, halibut, and black beans (as well as other legumes). So if you eat a diet that has a lot of those foods in it, you might not be deficient in magnesium.
With my diet only 1 or 1/2 of a tablet is needed to get me to my 100% DRV and at this price for a pack of three I think it's well worth it.
