I had read about the healing properties of thyme in in Dr. Bharat B. Aggarwal's "Healing Spices". Thyme contains thymol and studies have shown that thyme decreases coughing more effectively than a placebo. I wanted to try this on myself and my family because of its promise of helping with coughs without any side-effects.
Well it worked with my husband and my son. Then we had two couples for dinner, where both women were having coughing issues. I told them to "try this". One woman's coughing fits stopped immediately after she had spent a day having to deal with them and after having already turned red with multiple coughing fits several times during the meal. She said that she could feel that nasty tickle in her throat kind of get coated and soothed over. She did not cough again for the rest of the meal. (It was also worth it for the great look on her face. She, like myself, is a PhD health researcher and also into evidence-based research. I told that that it was OK because that had been studies on thyme and there was a mechanism, etc.) The other woman insisted that it didn't do anything for her. Of course, she didn't cough again for the rest of the meal - but we didn't want to point that out to her :)
One reason that I bought this brand was because it is until top-notch kosher supervision. FYI - taste is OK. You just put a dropper's worth in a little bit of water and drink it up. I prefer this to getting, say, Bronchipret because I don't need all the extra stuff in the syrups. (I know that Bronchipret also contains ivy, but I think that the action comes from the thyme).
Try it!
